Not-So-Novel Job Search Strategies

Job search strategies come and job search strategies go. Job seekers move along the age continuum. As they approach and overcome 50 years (of age), they begin to believe the hyperbole that they’re no longer useful and should be focusing on retirement rather than competing with the Gen-whatevers for plum career options. In the alternative, [...]

Social Responsibility

The September 11 observances were so moving. Some of the people who posted to my Comments on another site shared remarkable things. Some who wrote to me privately told of things that can be proven. Their statements show the bad faith and puppeteering of the day’s events. Just as with learning that the re-election of [...]

ROI

It was 40 years ago this morning that I began investing and the significance of making good choices became acutely underscored in regard to education, training, good listening skills, and communication. The awareness of where to network, as well as how, became another important factor at that time. Being a member of a minority group meant, [...]

The Word Is “Green”Peace

Irrespective of what I’m attempting to complete of the articles and blog posts started as far back as April and May, Greenpeace representatives are dotting the landscape around downtown L.A. to raise awareness. I’ve been accosted by six of their people in the past two hours and within a distance of two blocks. The first representative [...]

Identity and Selflessness

I've talked about the challenges that the media face when determining what is valid news in order to create compelling content that informs and educates. On the same day that the revelations regarding The Press occurred to me, I also observed some skills that are required of a politician in order to be considered re-electable, charismatic, and capable. Those observations made me wonder whether I could handle that pr… Continue

About Amy

Amy and Ed Becker have been together for ten years. Amy has an MBA and a very responsible position in the company where she's worked for the past seven years. That's just about the same amount of time that Amy and Ed have been experiencing difficulties.

When her job entailed being at the desk each and every day, it was necessary for Amy to miss at least three to five days a month for some strange accidents she kept having. But as time, experience, and responsibilities passed a… Continue

Becoming Part of the Community

Within the last four weeks, there have been three new people move into the place where I'm living. Last night I had an opportunity to have a conversation with the newest member of the house and get acquainted with him. He and the other new man in the house are contrasts in some ways. In reflecting on their similarities and differences, it seemed to me that they are quite representative of what we find in the workplace. So I dare to venture into this usually private realm in order to examine some… Continue

Women and Facing Adversity

I'm a warrior-princess. It's a hard-earned title and not romantic at all. There are other types of warriors and other types of princesses. We've seen the spectrum of them in the business world.

The Warrior

The warrior is the one who is ready and able to go into battle on her own at any time. She relishes a good fight for the sake of the sport and the challenge. It forces her to use her skill and knowledge to the utmost in order to survive. It makes her come up with new ways to attack th… Continue

Vocabulary Builder

/*

*/
November 16, 2007

Here's a vocabulary builder with multiple purposes. Not only does it strive (as does with both of our vocabulary builders) to build your vocabulary and recognition of words (and therefore, your word power), increased facility in speaking and writing, better performance on qualifying and placement exams, better reading speed, and improved interviews. In addition, each time you get a word right there's a benefit for others.

Each correct word delivers credit for 10 grains of rice to a person in a country where there is poverty and hunger, distributed by the United Nations World Food Program. To see the current country breakdown of donations, click here.

Click the logo to play the game or simply click here.

May 28, 2007:

Well, here's the inaugural installment of the Vocabulary Builder. Incidentally, if you have some vocabulary builders to recommend, send them over (along with the definitions, if you have them!).

Match Up
Match each word in the left column with its synonym on the right. When finished, click Answer to see the results. Good luck!
