Next Career Option - Environmentalism

Green and the many aspects it presents may be the direction in which we will find fertile grounds for careers and talent shortages. The many aspects of creating energy, renewable sources of energy, cost-effective and efficient uses, and many other creative dimensions of the Green Movement remind us that resources are limited.  The more we can focus on creating [...]

Why Is It Important to the Job Seeker?

It was probably the 23rd or 24th of March and I was having another bout of apathy in regard to interminable waits for unreliable buses that take me on two-hour rides to the next destination. On that day, I was contemplating the mania job seekers have about having the perfect resume. It was astounding how [...]

Fear of Failure

“I don’t try to do it because I’m afraid I’ll fail,” admitted Sam (a fictitious name of a friend) as we sipped our beverages. That was also the reason he’d not taken his licensing examination, nor learned and taken over duties on one of the more responsible pieces of equipment at his job, nor many [...]

Becoming Part of the Community

Within the last four weeks, there have been three new people move into the place where I'm living. Last night I had an opportunity to have a conversation with the newest member of the house and get acquainted with him. He and the other new man in the house are contrasts in some ways. In reflecting on their similarities and differences, it seemed to me that they are quite representative of what we find in the workplace. So I dare to venture into this usually private realm in order to examine some… Continue

Women and Facing Adversity

I'm a warrior-princess. It's a hard-earned title and not romantic at all. There are other types of warriors and other types of princesses. We've seen the spectrum of them in the business world. The Warrior The warrior is the one who is ready and able to go into battle on her own at any time. She relishes a good fight for the sake of the sport and the challenge. It forces her to use her skill and knowledge to the utmost in order to survive. It makes her come up with new ways to attack th… Continue

Making Progress

Slowly but surely, I'm beginning to remove the many obstacles that have interferred with my being productive over the past several months. It's interesting to analyze those situations in hindsight and make a determination of whether most of them originated from the same place and if so, what to do about maintaining a relationship there. Also interesting is analyzing the diversity of the interferences, their pattern and goal. The now pending question is whether these situations could have been fo… Continue

Youthful Indiscretion Permitted

A friend and I were observing the newest crop of freshmen and considering the things they do. We then considered how their new lives translate onto social networking sites such as MySpace, FaceBook, Hi5, and others.

Paraphrasing, my friend complained, "It's just a bunch of photographs of people holding cups of red beer, doing insane things, standing in outrageous positions, making faces, and just being really stupid." There was a longer litany of foolish and outlandish representations…

Vocabulary Builder

/*

*/
November 16, 2007

Here's a vocabulary builder with multiple purposes. Not only does it strive (as does with both of our vocabulary builders) to build your vocabulary and recognition of words (and therefore, your word power), increased facility in speaking and writing, better performance on qualifying and placement exams, better reading speed, and improved interviews. In addition, each time you get a word right there's a benefit for others.

Each correct word delivers credit for 10 grains of rice to a person in a country where there is poverty and hunger, distributed by the United Nations World Food Program. To see the current country breakdown of donations, click here.

Click the logo to play the game or simply click here.

May 28, 2007:

Well, here's the inaugural installment of the Vocabulary Builder. Incidentally, if you have some vocabulary builders to recommend, send them over (along with the definitions, if you have them!).

Match Up
Match each word in the left column with its synonym on the right. When finished, click Answer to see the results. Good luck!
